World Refugee Day

I want to be here ,
This is my home, where my heart resides,
Whose soil forms my frame and air captures my soul,
Don’t move me ,Don’t budge me,
For here I am all torn apart,
In a state which I built ,
Which once was mine but is not anymore,
Why oh Why I wonder,
What happed to the sweet smelling breeze,
The friend of seas,
What made them turn so ugly, so fierce,
That they are swallowing my nation,
These men wearing the garb of hatred have successfully uprooted me like a weed
From a farm,
Where I was the plant and they were weeds,
Let me cherish ,Let me preserve these moments,
For they won’t betray me as my men did.

Will you ,as citizens of a democratic nation, consider leaving your mother land and
moving to a foreign land, far out of imagination and pain giving? To get a glimpse
of which you can imagine the pain you would go through, if your parents or family
in whose arms you spent your childhood, asked you to immediately leave them to
never return back.

Yes my friends, this pain that you’ve just gone through multiplied many folds is
what these refugees go through, who flee from their homeland to escape
persecution and this fleeing is forced, out of will.People like you or like me flee or are forcibly displaced to seek protection leaving behind their roots and bonds. UNHCR, the UN Refugee agency has come up with #WithRefugees petition wherein people are requested to sign and show their support, the petition being directed to various governments seeking the following:

  • Every refugee child gets an education
  • Every refugee family has somewhere safe to live
  • Every refugee can work or learn new skills to support their families

FIGURES AT A GLANCE

  • Around 65.3 million people are forcibly displaced.
  • On an average 42500 flee per day to seek protection.
  • The worst humanitarian crisis, the civil war of Syria, displaced 45% of its
    population (around 11 million).
  • 86% of refugees are hosted by developing countries.
  • Largest refugee camp is located in Dadaab, Kenya hosting 329000 people.
  • Out of 20 million refugees 51% are under 18.
  • Civilians are living in penury and panic as battle in Mosul, Iraq rages. An estimated
  • 100000 civilians are used as human shields. The population is moved by fighters
to be used as shields and are deeply traumatized. UNHCR is giving psychological
    aid.

World refugee day is celebrated every year on 20th of June to support millions of families all over the world who have lost their homes and dear ones because of violence or war. The day was established by the General Assembly of United Nations for the refugees to honor them for their courage of facing lots of problems after losing homes due to conflict or violence and their contributions to their communities. World refugee day celebration provides an opportunity to all to help the refugees worldwide to rebuild their quality lives through lots of related activities.

Thousands in conflict torn areas in Donbos of eastern Ukraine lose access topensions. People living in non-government controlled areas are required to register as IDP (Internally Displaced People) with the Ukraine authorities to access their pension benefits. Alan Kurdi, a 3 year old Syrian boy never knew that at the very same spot where thousands enjoy, celebrate, spread wings of happiness, death would spread its wings and engulf him. Alas, the grieving Kurdis who were grief torn to leave their country didn’t know that a bigger loss was awaiting them. They were just a drop in the big ocean of refugees who leave a place, which was once their mother, to go and adapt themselves and call some other place their land. No one leaves their home unless it becomes the mouth of a shark of situations devastating and destructing pushing them into the mouths of foreign lands, which may have in store for them slavery, violation of human rights and many more barbaric crimes to be meted against them.

According to recent survey conducted by UN nearly 1 in 100 people are displaced.
The report quotes that every 6 out 0f 10 people are refugees seeking asylum .In
recent times majority of refugees originated from Syria, Afghanistan and modern
day Mesopotamia or Iraq and reached Germany, Hungary, Sweden. Refugee participation is seen as key to comprehensive response. “We must ensure that refugees are included not just as beneficiaries but as real actors”, said UN High Commissioner for refugees Fillipo Grandi. They must be part of the solution.

But we can also see few rings of the colorful rainbow, as the ancient historical
Qissa-i-Sanjan suggests how Zoroashtrians became like sugar in milk in Gujrat.
Most of them are trying to make best out of their lives by surviving and rebuilding
though uprooted by war and forced out of the soil to which they belong.
World Refugee Day is held on 20th June every year to commemorate their
resolution and perseverance. People and government are expected to join hands
for the betterment of the lot of the ones who flee seeking security leaving behind
their souls in the land where they took their very first breath uncertain of where
they will have their last.
